Why a step-in harness suits a Labradoodle
A big, excited Labradoodle can hit the end of the lead with a lot of force, and on a collar all of that lands on their throat. A harness spreads it across the chest and gives you far more control while they are still learning lead manners, which, with a Labrador's enthusiasm and a Poodle's brain, can take a little while.
Ours is step-in, so there is no wrestling a fluffy face and two big ears through a loop every morning. You lay it flat, they step in, and the neck and chest clip closed. Both adjust, so it sits snug whether you have a lean first cross or a big, fluffy Australian Labradoodle.
That coat needs a little care under the straps. Brush right down to the skin where the harness sits so mats cannot form in the armpits, and dry everything off after a swim. For walking, put the lead on the harness. It clips at the back, so nothing pulls on the neck, and the collar is for their tag and their name.
