Why a step-in harness suits a cavoodle
Cavoodles think everyone is their new best friend. Every walk is a social event, and a friendly pup bouncing towards every dog, kid and cafe table puts a lot of pull through the lead. On a collar, all of that lands on the neck, which matters for a breed where the Cavalier side can carry neck and airway sensitivity. A harness spreads it across the chest and shoulders instead.
The fluff is the tricky part. A thick fleece coat can make a harness look snug when it is sitting loose underneath, so measure through the coat, and check the fit again after a groom, when there is suddenly a lot less dog. Ours is step-in: you lay it flat, they step in, and the neck and chest clip closed. Nothing gets pulled over that teddy bear face or snagged in those feathered ears, and both straps adjust so it stays put mid-zoomie.
For walking, put the lead on the harness. It clips at the back, so nothing pulls on the neck. The collar is for their tag and the engraved charm with their name.
